The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) has announced a significant initiative aimed at assisting its lower-income union members with daily expenses.
Eligible individuals can now apply for e-vouchers valued at up to $120. This program, known as the 2025 NTUC Care (U Stretch) programme, represents a $1.2 million commitment designed to support working families amidst ongoing cost pressures.
The main objective of this program is to empower union members to maximise their financial resources for essential expenditures.
In a statement released on July 30, NTUC said that this programme will allow union members to stretch their dollar further in areas such as groceries, healthcare and daily meals, as everyday expenses remain uncomfortably high for many lower-income families.
The e-vouchers will be digitally disbursed through the RedeemSG system, available in denominations of $1, $2, $5, and $10.
These vouchers offer flexibility for redemption at a variety of participating merchants. This includes major outlets such as FairPrice supermarkets, Unity pharmacies, and Kopitiam food courts. It is important to note that the e-vouchers are valid for use until December 31, 2025.
To qualify for the 2025 NTUC Care (U Stretch) programme, applicants must meet specific criteria:
- Applicants must hold NTUC membership for at least six consecutive months as of their application date.
- There should be no outstanding membership payments due.
Income thresholds also apply, varying based on household composition:
- For union members residing alone (without family members in the same household): Eligibility for $60 in e-vouchers is granted if their gross monthly income, encompassing overtime pay and allowances, does not exceed $1,650.
- For union members with family members residing in the same household: Eligibility for $120 in e-vouchers requires their gross monthly household income not to exceed $3,800. Alternatively, their per capita income must be $950 or below.
