Two Found Dead After Fire Breaks Out in Toa Payoh Flat

SCDF Extinguishes Fire at Toa Payoh Flat, Investigations Ongoing into Cause

A devastating fire broke out in a flat at Block 173 Toa Payoh Lorong 1 on Tuesday, July 22, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of two individuals. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed the fatalities after responding to the emergency.

The SCDF received an alert about the blaze at approximately 7:30 PM. Upon their swift arrival at the scene, firefighters discovered that the living room of a second-floor unit was engulfed in flames. The brave firefighters entered the smoke-filled residence, working quickly to bring the inferno under control. They successfully extinguished the fire using a powerful water jet.

Inside the unit, a grim discovery was made. Police reported that firefighters located a man and a woman lying motionless. Both individuals were promptly brought out of the burning apartment, but sadly, they were pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.

Investigations into the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the deaths are currently ongoing, with both the SCDF and the police working together to determine what happened.

A concerned reader of CNA, who wished to remain anonymous, provided several photographs and a video capturing the intensity of the fire. The footage clearly showed SCDF firefighters actively battling the large blaze. The exterior walls and the parapet of the block were visibly blackened, a testament to the fire’s destructive power.

In addition to the two fatalities, three residents from neighbouring units were affected by the smoke. The SCDF reported that these individuals were assessed for smoke inhalation and subsequently transported to Singapore General Hospital for medical attention, highlighting the wider impact of such incidents on the community.
