A man has been arrested in Singapore following a peculiar incident where his car crashed into a road divider and subsequently mounted a pavement in the Farrer Park area.
The event unfolded around 11:05 PM on Sunday, June 29. The vehicle involved was identified as a white Toyota C-HR Hybrid, and the incident occurred along Race Course Road, in the direction leading towards Tessensohn Road.
The sequence of events was captured in a video that was later posted in the Complaint Singapore Facebook group, providing a visual account of the incident.
At the very beginning of the clip, which carried a timestamp of 11:09 PM on that Sunday, the white Toyota C-HR Hybrid appeared to have already driven onto the road divider. It had seemingly crashed through a section of the railing that separates the road, with the dislodged portion of the railing visible lying on the road surface directly in front of the car.
Car crashes through divider
Following this initial impact, the car did not simply stop. Instead, it proceeded to reverse off the road divider. However, in this maneuver, the vehicle ended up crashing through yet another part of the divider, causing further damage to the railing in that section.
Despite these multiple impacts and damages, the car continued its erratic movement. It did not come to a halt but continued to reverse across the road.
The vehicle then took another unexpected turn, mounting the kerb. From there, it drove onto the grass verge, further extending its path onto the pavement.
The car continued its journey down a slope, only finally coming to a complete stop after it collided with and knocked over a bicycle. The car’s uncontrolled movement also resulted in it knocking over another section of railing before it eventually ceased moving.
Driver arrested
The SPF confirmed had arrived to the destination later on indicating that the vehicle was believed to have self-skidded.
Fortunately, despite the extensive and erratic movements of the car and the property damage caused, no injuries were reported from the incident.
The 39-year-old male driver of the car was subsequently arrested. The arrest was made on suspicion of driving while under the influence of a drug or an intoxicating substance.
Police investigations into this incident are currently ongoing to ascertain all the contributing factors and circumstances.
