Singapore’s Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong, is set to give his important National Day Rally speech on Sunday, August 17, 2025, and this big event will happen at ITE College Central in Ang Mo Kio. This location is quite familiar, as it has been used for the rally almost every year since 2013, making it a regular spot for this public address.
The National Day Rally holds a very important place in Singapore’s yearly plans, as many people see it as the most important political speech of the whole year. During this time, the Prime Minister talks directly to the country, sharing big plans and discussing important issues facing Singapore.
This rally is extra special for Prime Minister Wong because it’s only his second time giving this speech, and his first since his party, the People’s Action Party, won the General Election this year. This moment shows a new start for Singapore, with him leading the way.
Looking back at last year’s National Day Rally, Mr. Wong announced several important things.
One big announcement was the SkillsFuture Jobseeker Support scheme, which allows retrenched workers to receive temporary financial support of up to S$6,000 (US$4,670) over six months.
PM Wong also announced that the government would introduce 10 more weeks of shared parental leave. This aims to help families more and encourage parents to share caring for their children.
It was also announced that singles would get priority access when they apply for new Build-to-Order flats to live with or near their parents.
In the last rally, PM Wong also revealed a number of upcoming changes to Singapore’s sporting landscape, including the relocation of national sports training centres and the Singapore Sports School to Kallang as part of the Kallang Alive masterplan that aims to make Kallang a big area for sports and fun, offering better places for athletes and everyone to enjoy.
