8 Foreign Drivers Caught for Illegally Ferrying Tourists in Singapore, Cars Seized

To clamp down on illegal point-to-point transport services offered by foreign drivers, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Singapore Tourism Board (STB) recently conducted a joint enforcement operation, and eight foreign drivers were caught.

According to a Facebook post by LTA on Tuesday (June 17), the operation took place across various locations in Singapore last week. The eight drivers were allegedly offering illegal rides to popular tourist spots.

Video footage shared by authorities showed destinations such as Gardens by the Bay and the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple in Chinatown.

Authorities also revealed that some of these drivers acted as unofficial tour guides, using their knowledge of Singapore roads and attractions to offer extra services, even though they are not licensed to do so.

LTA reminded the public that anyone without a valid Public Service Vehicle Licence (PSVL) is not allowed to provide paid cross-border transport services. If convicted, offenders could face a fine of up to $3,000, up to six months’ jail, or both. The vehicles involved may also be forfeited.

Authorities also warned commuters not to use such illegal private-hire services, as they may not have proper insurance coverage or safety standards, putting passengers at risk.
