SEA Aquarium will reopen as Singapore Oceanarium on July 23!
The popular SEA Aquarium at Sentosa is getting a big glow-up, and also a new name. Now called the Singapore Oceanarium, it will officially reopen to the public on Jul. 23 after being closed for the past three months for renovations.
What to expect at the all-new Singapore Oceanarium?
For starters, the revamped oceanarium is now three times bigger than before, with 22 different zones for you to explore.
According to Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), the upgraded space isn’t just for show — it’s been transformed into a world-class marine institute focused on education, conservation, and getting people to care more about our oceans.
What can you see in the Singapore Oceanarium?
Some of the highlights include:
-
Ocean Wonders: One of the world’s biggest jellyfish tanks filled with thousands of moon jellies swimming gracefully.
-
Singapore’s Coast: A section designed to look like local mangrove swamps, with interactive displays showcasing native marine life.
-
Ancient Waters & Conquering Land: See life-sized models of prehistoric sea creatures and living fossils that show how life evolved over time.
-
Spirit of Exploration: Features the Jewel of Muscat, a full-sized replica of a 9th-century Arabian ship.
Not just for sightseeing
Right next to the Oceanarium, there’s also a new research and learning centre. RWS says they’ll be teaming up with local universities like NUS and NTU to do research on marine life, ocean conservation, and climate change.
This includes a five-year research project with NUS and another with the Earth Observatory of Singapore at NTU.
Why the big change?
RWS CEO Tan Hee Teck said the Singapore Oceanarium isn’t just a new tourist attraction — it’s meant to spark curiosity and encourage people to take real action to protect the oceans.
Lam Xue Ying, Vice President of the Singapore Oceanarium, said this revamp has been years in the making, and it’s all about educating the next generation in a more immersive, interactive way.
Ticket prices and more programme details will be announced soon. So, stay tuned!
