Ong Ye Kung, Chee Hong Tat & Ng Chee Meng Send Legal Letters to Facebook User Over Defamatory Posts

Two Cabinet Ministers — Health Minister Ong Ye Kung and Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat — along with National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng, have each sent legal letters to a Facebook user over false claims made in relation to the $3 billion money laundering case involving Su Haijin.

In separate statements released on Monday (May 12), all three individuals said they had issued letters of demand to a Facebook user identified as Sng Chia Huat, who goes by the username “Rich Sng” on the platform.

What happened?

According to a joint statement released by their press secretaries, Sng had posted two Facebook posts alleging that the ministers:

  • Knew Su Haijin was involved in illegal activities, but still condoned his actions,

  • Pretended not to know Su,

  • Might have accepted bribes,

  • And were part of a system that protects criminals like him.

Ong and Chee called the accusations “baseless and untrue” and stressed that they had no contact with Su before or after a dinner event where they were photographed in the same setting.

They are demanding that Sng retract his posts, apologise, and pay damages, which will be donated to charity. If he fails to do so by Friday (May 16), they said legal action will follow to “clear their names and protect the reputation of the Government”.

Ng Chee Meng also takes action

Later that night, NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng issued a separate statement in his personal capacity, saying he too had sent Sng a legal letter for posting multiple Facebook posts that were “false, misleading, and defamatory”.

While Ng did not specify the details of the claims, he is similarly asking for an apology, a retraction, and compensation to be donated to charity.

“If Mr Sng fails to comply, I will be compelled to take legal action to refute these false, misleading, and defamatory allegations,” said Ng.

Background context

The controversy first began during the GE2025 campaign period, when photos of Su Haijin dining with Ng Chee Meng were circulated online. This led to public speculation about their relationship. Later, more group photos emerged showing Su at the same dinner with Ong Ye Kung, Chee Hong Tat, and local businessman Sam Goi, also known as the “Popiah King”.

All three men have publicly denied knowing Su Haijin beyond the dinner event.

As of now, Sng has not publicly responded to the legal demands.
