DJ Dongfang Billy, who had been residing in Jiangsu, China, made a remarkable return to Singapore to cast his vote in the General Election. His return not only marked his civic duty but also showcased his incredible transformation – shedding an impressive 21kg in just three months. Dongfang Billy’s weight loss journey was no easy feat. In an interview with Shin Min Daily News, he candidly shared his approach to losing weight, stating, “I eat very small portions, but I make sure my meals are nutritionally balanced.”
Overcoming health issues amidst the pandemic posed additional challenges for Dongfang Billy. From torn meniscus and detached retina surgeries to battling COVID-19 and a herniated disc, his health struggles were compounded by the side effects of medications leading to weight gain. Despite these setbacks, he displayed unwavering determination and resilience. Reflecting on his health journey, Dongfang Billy expressed, “Due to the numerous medications with side effects that cause obesity, this is the most difficult, exhausting, terrifying, and hardest-to-solve problem in my life.”
Dongfang Billy’s battle with obesity not only affected his physical well-being but also took a toll on his mental health. Describing the impact of his weight gain, he revealed, “Obesity caused great inconvenience in my life, with walking, putting on shoes, personal hygiene, and physical activities becoming very difficult.” His internal struggle with self-doubt and deteriorating health prompted him to embark on a transformative weight loss journey.
Returning to Singapore, beyond his achievements, Dongfang Billy engaged with his fans and encouraged older adults to prioritize physical activity. His commitment to fulfilling his civic duty by participating in the General Election showcased his dedication to Singapore, where he became a citizen in 1992.
