In a compelling speech delivered in Sembawang, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung addressed the significance of his dual role as both a Member of Parliament (MP) and a minister in effectively serving the residents of Sembawang GRC.
He highlighted specific accomplishments and developments that have directly benefited the community as a result of his role in the government, stating, “It is extremely satisfying when I can see the policies made in MOH in Outram Road land in Sembawang and benefitting the residents here.”
Ong emphasised how his position allows him to drive initiatives like Age Well SG and expand the network of Active Ageing Centres, leading to tangible improvements in the lives of Sembawang and Woodlands town residents.
Asserting the unique advantage of holding dual roles, Ong argued against the opposition’s viewpoint that an MP’s influence is diminished when serving as a minister, stating, “I can best serve you when I am both a Minister and an MP.”
He pointed out that the policy changes and resource allocations he has championed as health minister directly impact the well-being of Sembawang GRC residents, showcasing the value of his multifaceted position in making positive changes at both local and national levels.
During the People’s Action Party (PAP) rally in Sembawang, Ong detailed various projects and enhancements that have been realized under his leadership, including the establishment of the Bukit Canberra community hub, the development of the Yusof Ishak Mosque, and the forthcoming projects in the Woodlands area surrounding the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) station.
Not only did he highlight accomplishments, but he also refuted claims made by the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) that such projects would occur regardless of the party in power.
Accompanied by his PAP team members—Mr. Vikram Nair, Ms. Mariam Jaafar, Mr. Gabriel Lam, Mr. Ng Shi Xuan, and Ms. Poh Li San—Ong’s rally speech showcased a collective vision for the future of Sembawang GRC.
The team outlined plans to further support and engage with the community, such as launching new community scholarships, expanding essential service programs, and providing assistance for vulnerable groups like ex-convicts and their families.
