WP’s Andre Low Challenges PAP’s Ng Chee Meng in Jalan Kayu SMC for GE2025 Battle

In the upcoming general election, the People’s Action Party (PAP) is fielding Ng Chee Meng to contest in the single-seat constituency of Jalan Kayu SMC.

The Workers’ Party (WP) has chosen Andre Low as their candidate, setting the stage for an intriguing electoral battle. This matchup has sparked anticipation and interest among voters in Jalan Kayu as they await to see who will emerge victorious.

During the nomination day, Andre Low, a former disputes lawyer and staff product manager at a global financial technology firm, was officially unveiled as the WP candidate for Jalan Kayu SMC.

Low expressed his strong connection to the constituency by saying, “We feel a strong affinity to this place. We had previously contested here when it used to be part of the Sengkang West SMC, so I think we’re coming home in a way.” This sentiment underscores the significance of continuity and familiarity in electoral contests.

On the other hand, Ng Chee Meng, the PAP candidate and current labour chief, is no stranger to the political arena.

Having served previously as the Minister of Education and Chief of the Defence Force, Ng brings a wealth of experience and leadership to his candidacy.

His commitment to addressing residents’ concerns is highlighted by his statement, “I hope to be able to…secure the votes so that I can represent them in Parliament, to speak up for them, and also to take practical action to uplift the lives in Jalan Kayu and Fernvale communities.”
