An emotional journey has begun for Tan Bee Geok, a 70-year-old Singaporean woman who is on a heartfelt quest to reconnect with her long-lost biological family. Born to a Hokkien family on 20 July in either 1955 or 1956, Tan Bee Geok was given away as an infant due to her biological father’s unemployment, which left her family unable to provide for her. Raised by adoptive parents, Zhang Shunshui and Guo Cuiying, Tan Bee Geok discovered she was adopted at the age of 10. Despite the love and care she received from her adoptive family, Tan Bee Geok faced financial struggles, eventually dropping out of school in Secondary One.
Trisha Lin, Tan Bee Geok’s 40-year-old daughter and a key account manager, has taken the initiative to reach out for help in finding her mother’s biological family. In a heartfelt message shared with MS News, Trisha expressed her mother’s desire to locate her biological parents or siblings before it’s too late. Trisha highlighted the deep yearning her mother has to uncover her roots by explaining, “My brothers and I are extremely close to my mum and all of us wish to fulfill this wish of hers.”
Trisha shared details from her mother’s old and worn birth certificate, disclosing that Tan Bee Geok’s biological father is Tan Hock Seong and her biological mother is Yap Swee Ee. The family resided at 881 Lorong 3 in Geylang when Tan Bee Geok was born. With the hope of a reunion, Tan Bee Geok seeks closure by wanting to know how her biological family has been and to possibly visit her parents or their graves, should they still be alive.
As Trisha and her family embark on this heartfelt journey, they have turned to social media, and various news sites, and even reached out to Member of Parliament Tan Kiat How for assistance. Along with her efforts to locate her biological family, Trisha has requested anyone with relevant information to contact her via email at trisha.lin@gmail.com or send a message on Facebook.
