Indranee Rajah to Lead PAP’s New Pasir Ris-Changi GRC Team as Teo Chee Hean Steps Aside

Indranee Rajah To Lead PAP slate At The New Pasir Ris-Changi GRC

In a significant development ahead of General Election 2025, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Leader of the House, Indranee Rajah, will helm the People’s Action Party (PAP) team in the newly-formed Pasir Ris-Changi GRC. Her move marks a notable shift from her long-standing role in Tanjong Pagar GRC, sparking speculation about the future of Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean, who will not be contesting in the new GRC.

At a press conference unveiling the PAP slate, Teo confirmed he would not stand for re-election in Pasir Ris-Changi, but left open the possibility of contesting elsewhere—possibly Punggol GRC. “I will continue to support PM Lawrence Wong and his 4G team, and remain available to contribute wherever and however the Prime Minister feels I can best serve,” he said.

Indranee, 62, has served in Tanjong Pagar GRC since 2001. She will lead a team comprising Senior Minister of State Desmond Tan, incumbent MP Sharael Taha, and first-time candidate Valerie Lee Nai Yi. The move comes as multiple opposition parties eye the new constituency, with the Singapore Democratic Alliance already expressing intent to contest.

Indranee acknowledged her mixed emotions about leaving Tanjong Pagar after 24 years, but reaffirmed her commitment to championing issues close to residents’ hearts—from the cost of living to family and community well-being. “We respect all competition in this election,” she added.

Desmond Tan, who currently serves Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC, highlighted his ongoing focus on community feedback, infrastructure improvements, and social support. He also credited Teo Chee Hean as a key mentor who shaped his resident-first approach to governance.

Valerie Lee, a newcomer to politics, shared her intent to advocate for young families and underrepresented communities. She emphasised the importance of building a fairer, greener, and more inclusive Singapore for future generations.

With the PAP’s reshuffling of leadership roles, Pasir Ris-Changi GRC is shaping up to be a closely watched contest—featuring a mix of seasoned leaders and fresh faces ready to tackle evolving voter needs.
