A recent incident in Jurong East shocked passengers when a Causeway Link bus suddenly caught fire, leading to a chaotic evacuation.
One eyewitness described the harrowing experience, stating, “I was ‘shocked to death’ at the incident, having just boarded the bus.” The situation escalated as the fire, originating in the engine compartment, engulfed the rear of the bus, with one passenger claiming that the bus “almost exploded,” emphasizing the severity of the situation.
The unfolding events were captured in footage shared on social media platforms, drawing attention to the alarming incident. In one video posted on XiaoHongShu, viewers could witness the bus ablaze, prompting quick action from the passengers to evacuate.
The intensity of the fire was evident as large flames emerged from the rear of the bus, triggering the arrival of fire engines from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) to the scene.
Responding swiftly, the SCDF managed to extinguish the fire, averting any injuries to the passengers. An SCDF spokesperson confirmed that the incident occurred along Jurong Town Hall Road and was contained to the engine compartment of the bus. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing to determine the source of the alarming blaze.
In the aftermath of the incident, Causeway Link issued a public apology, expressing regret over the inconvenience caused and assuring that passenger safety remains a top priority.
The company swiftly assisted all affected passengers and ensured their safe transfer to an alternative bus. Furthermore, Causeway Link initiated an internal investigation in collaboration with law enforcement agencies to identify the factors that led to the bus fire in Jurong East.
