Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who leads Ang Mo Kio GRC, attended a Meet-the-People Session (MPS) in Fernvale on Saturday (April 5) alongside Ng Chee Meng, Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC). This has further fueled speculation that Ng will contest in the newly carved-out Jalan Kayu Single Member Constituency (SMC).
SM Lee shared photos from the session on the Teck Ghee division’s social media page, showing him at the Fernvale MPS, including one picture with Ng Chee Meng and Gan Thiam Poh, the current MP overseeing Fernvale, as well as group photos with volunteers.

In his post, SM Lee wrote that although Fernvale will be renamed Jalan Kayu in the upcoming election, the team’s commitment to residents remains unchanged.
Ng Chee Meng also posted on Facebook the same day, saying that after walking the ground on Friday night, he joined SM Lee and Gan Thiam Poh at the MPS the following day.
He added that he was glad to see activists and volunteers of all ages rolling up their sleeves to assist and support residents.
Ng has been spotted frequently walking the ground in the Jalan Kayu area in recent weeks. Just last month, he attended another MPS session in Fernvale and told Lianhe Zaobao that he has been engaging residents regularly because:
“If the Prime Minister sends me here, I want to gather first-hand insights from residents — understand their challenges, hear their views, and get to know the community better.”
According to the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee’s report, Jalan Kayu has been carved out of Ang Mo Kio GRC to form a new SMC. It covers both private estates and HDB flats in Fernvale, Sengkang West Avenue and Fernvale Road, as well as the Seletar Aerospace Park.
