22 Years Since Leslie Cheung's Passing, Boyfriend Daffy Tong Pays Tribute on Death Anniversary

It has been 22 years since the passing of “Forever Brother” Leslie Cheung, and his former boyfriend Daffy Tong continues his annual ‘tradition’ of remembering the late star on his death anniversary through his social media.

On April 1, Tong posted a photo of Leslie Cheung on his Instagram, a still from Farewell My Concubine, and a short video clip of him singing “Monica,” along with the lyrics “Who can take your place?” – perfectly capturing Leslie’s irreplaceable place in his heart.

Now 66 years old, Tong has been posting tributes on significant dates such as Leslie’s birthday and death anniversary since his passing. His Instagram is nearly always filled with images of Leslie Cheung. However, in July 2024, rumours emerged that Tong had found a new partner nearly 30 years younger than him and had used a surrogate to have two sons, all of whom were living in the house Leslie Cheung had left behind.

This caused quite a stir among Leslie’s fans. In response, Tong then clarified that the rumoured new partner was merely a friend and that there was no surrogate child. He also stated that he had moved out of Leslie’s former residence over a decade ago, saying, “Since he left, I have been living alone, and I still live alone.”

Tong resumed his habit of posting memorial tributes on Instagram. In September 2024, on Leslie Cheung’s 68th posthumous birthday, Tong shared a birthday photo from 1993, inviting fans to celebrate. On Christmas Eve, which was one of Leslie’s favourite holidays, Tong posted a photo of Leslie Cheung with his close friend Anita Mui, taken on Christmas, recreating the iconic “Forever Diva” duo.
