Koufu Implements Price Label System for Economy Rice Dishes

CASE Collaborates with Koufu to Enhance Consumer Experience

In a bid to enhance price transparency and provide consumers with greater certainty when selecting their meals, Koufu food courts and coffee shops will be implementing a new initiative involving colour-coded price labels for all economy rice dishes. The move, which aims to address the issue of inconsistent pricing and empower consumers to make informed choices, was officially launched at Hong Le Mixed Veg Rice stall at Plantation Plaza’s Koufu food court.

Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) president Melvin Yong, alongside Koufu’s chief financial officer Chua Sher Lin, launched the initiative, which will see all dishes categorized into different types – meat, seafood, vegetables, and premium items – along with their corresponding individual prices. This rollout is set to be completed across all 77 Koufu food courts and coffee shops by the end of the year.

Mr. Yong emphasized the significance of this measure by stating, “Many consumers buy their meals from economy rice stalls, and it is common to hear complaints about the actual price of the meal after the consumer has selected the dishes. The dispute often centered on the ambiguity of the prices of the dishes on display. Having colour-coded labels will allow consumers to make informed choices and prevent any potential disputes over prices.”

The partnership between Koufu and CASE signifies a collaborative effort to promote fair and clear pricing practices within the industry. Ms. Chua highlighted the mutual benefits of the initiative, stating, “This initiative will benefit both customers by making it easier to understand pricing and choices, and stall operators by promoting fair and clear pricing.”

The introduction of colour-coded price labels for economy rice dishes not only addresses the concerns raised by consumers regarding pricing inconsistencies but also sets a positive precedent for greater transparency and accountability within the food court industry.

As the initiative gains traction within Koufu establishments, it is hoped that other economy rice stalls in Singapore will follow suit, ultimately creating a more consumer-friendly dining environment.
