The Progress Singapore Party (PSP) recently revealed its new Central Executive Committee (CEC) members for the upcoming General Election in 2025.
Notably, Tan Cheng Bock, Leong Mun Wai, and Hazel Poa were re-elected to important positions within the party.
According to the information retrieved, both Non-constituency Members of Parliament (NCMPs), Leong Mun Wai and Hazel Poa, were among those re-elected to the PSP’s top decision-making body. In addition, founder and former secretary-general Dr Tan Cheng Bock retained his position on the CEC. The re-election of these key figures demonstrates the party’s commitment to continuity and experience in its leadership.
The composition of the new CEC reflects a mix of familiar faces and new additions. Among the successful re-elections were Tan Cheng Bock, Leong Mun Wai, and Hazel Poa, while individuals like Dr Ang Yong Guan and Mr Jeffrey Khoo did not secure re-election. The inclusion of new members such as Anthony Neo, Joseph Wong, Samuel Lim, and S Nallakaruppan indicates a fresh perspective within the party leadership.
One of the significant developments was the decision of Dr Ang Yong Guan not to seek re-election, citing personal reasons related to his professional career as a psychiatrist. His absence from the new CEC marks a change in the party’s leadership landscape and opens up opportunities for others to step up and contribute to the party’s mission.
The democratic process within the PSP was evident during the election of the new CEC members, with cadres participating in the voting process to select 12 members from a pool of 24 nominees. The atmosphere at the party headquarters was intense as members eagerly awaited the results, which were announced after a meticulous counting process.
In a statement following the announcement of the new CEC members, Leong Mun Wai expressed the readiness of the team for the upcoming General Election but also emphasized the need for further internal deliberation.
