Since Mar. 19, continuous rain has been falling over both Singapore and JB due to a monsoon surge forming over the South China Sea. The monsoon surge, expected to last until Mar. 21, prompted PUB, Singapore’s national water agency, to issue multiple flash flood risk alerts and advise commuters to adjust their travel plans if necessary.
The heavy rain also worsened congestion at the Causeway land crossing on Mar. 19, with the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority warning travellers of “heavy departure traffic” at 3:52 pm.
By around 5 pm on Wednesday, the Jalanow website estimated that the crossing time from JB to Singapore was approximately one hour and 30 minutes.
As bus bays at the JB immigration complex became crowded with commuters waiting for buses to Singapore, a woman reportedly fainted while queuing.
