The quiet roads of Lim Chu Kang were met with an unexpected visitor recently when a crocodile was sighted leisurely basking in the sun on Neo Tiew Crescent. The man who stumbled upon this unusual sight immediately shared photos of the reptile on the Singapore Wildlife Sightings Facebook group, humorously describing it as “someone’s pet lizard sunbathing on the road.”
According to the images captured, the crocodile was sprawled across the deserted two-way road, positioned near a gate as if straying away from it. No other crocodiles were in sight, leaving observers puzzled by the solitary appearance of the reptile in an urban setting.
The individual who first spotted the crocodile, referred to as Mr. Koo, recounted his surprise at encountering the creature along Neo Tiew Crescent around 1 pm on a Tuesday.
The area in which the crocodile was found happens to be home to the Long Kuan Hung Crocodile Farm, the last remaining crocodile farm in Singapore. Mr. Koo speculated that the crocodile may have ventured from nearby Sungei Buloh, adding to the intrigue of the impromptu sighting.
The National Parks Board (NParks) swiftly responded to the reported crocodile sighting, initiating a search operation to locate the wandering reptile. The ongoing search, extended to the following morning, urged members of the public to exercise caution in the unlikely event of encountering a crocodile. NParks advised individuals to remain calm, keep a safe distance, and refrain from approaching, provoking, or feeding the animal.
In light of the unexpected appearance of the crocodile on Neo Tiew Crescent, locals have been reminded to report any unusual animal encounters to NParks promptly. Should any further sightings occur, residents are encouraged to contact NParks at 1800-476-1600 for assistance.
