Roasted Chicken Section Caught Fire at Marina One Cold Storage

A small fire broke out at the rotisserie section of a Cold Storage outlet in Singapore on Mar. 10 at around 6:20pm.

According to a supermarket patron, who is a Mothership reader, stated “I was at the Cold Storage at Marina One in hopes to purchase a roast chicken for my salad when I encountered the fire.”

Eye-witnesses recounted an unexpected turn of events as a chicken wrapped in a paper bag near the food warmer caught fire, leading to other chickens in the section catching fire as well.

Despite the alarming situation, patrons and staff at the supermarket attempted to combat the growing blaze. One brave lady tried to move one of the flaming chickens with her bare hands, while another man tried to put out the fire with water, but to no avail.

The customer then alerted a cashier to the flame, who appeared with a fire extinguisher to combat the growing blaze.

The eyewitness account stated, “The cashier appeared with a fire extinguisher to combat the growing blaze, but apparently did not know how to use it.”

In a display of quick thinking and bravery, the customer took the fire extinguisher from the cashier and successfully put out the flames.

However, concerns were raised about the handling of the extinguisher, as the eyewitness shared that he was “mildly concerned” to see the cashier “fumble” with the extinguisher.

While there were no reported injuries from the fire, the eyewitness mentioned that the first lady shopping for chicken alongside him at the rotisserie section attempted to move the flaming chicken with her bare hands and may have gotten a light injury.

In response to queries, a spokesperson from Cold Storage expressed awareness of the incident and conveyed appreciation for the customers’ swift response in assisting their team members to quickly extinguish the fire.

The spokesperson mentioned that as a precaution, the sale of ready-to-eat BBQ chicken at Cold Storage Marina One has been temporarily suspended.
