A tragic incident at Block 187 Boon Lay Avenue has led to the arrest of a 58-year-old man following the untimely death of a 56-year-old male resident within the same flat.

The police were alerted to the scene on Tuesday morning, where the lifeless body was discovered inside the unit. In a statement, the authorities confirmed, “Upon (the) police’s arrival, officers found a 56-year-old man lying motionless inside the unit. He was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.”

The police also revealed that a suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the case.

Neighbours and residents were shocked by the unfolding tragedy, with one neighbour, Ms Zai, providing insights into the living arrangements of the individuals involved. She revealed to CNA that the unit was shared by two men and two women. According to her, although occasional disturbances had been heard from the flat, there was an unusual silence on the day of the incident.

Another neighbour, Ms Nithya, observed that the men living in the unit appeared to be of different age groups – one in his 40s and the deceased in his 60s. Additionally, observations from other residents indicated that the unit was seldom visited by relatives.

Reportedly, when reporters arrived at the scene at 5.10pm, four police officers were seen outside the 11th-floor unit, which was cordoned off with police tape on both sides. A black body bag was carried out of the unit at 5.33pm by two police officers and two employees of Singapore Casket.

As of the time of writing, preliminary investigations revealed that both parties were known to each other and police investigations are ongoing.
