Lorry Allegedly “Abandoned” in Woodlands Car Park, Wheel Clamped, and Accumulates 47 Fines

A lorry suspected to have been abandoned in an open-air car park in Woodlands had its wheel clamped and racked up 47 unpaid fines amounting to over $3,000, drawing public attention.

The company that owns the lorry said that a former driver was responsible for the situation, leaving the company to bear the consequences.

Incident at Woodlands Car Park

The incident took place at Car Park W3 along Woodlands Centre Road, reported Shin Min Daily News.

The lorry had reportedly been parked there for an extended period, and authorities had clamped its wheel and issued a notice stating that the violation occurred on February 26 at 4:50 AM. To unlock the vehicle, the owner would have to pay a $100 release fee.

According to the notice, the lorry was clamped due to parking violations. Upon further checks, it was found that as of the time it was clamped, the vehicle had accumulated at least 47 parking fines totalling $3,155.

The notice also stated that an arrest warrant had been issued for the vehicle owner, urging them to surrender themselves promptly.

Former Driver is Responsible, But the Transport Company is Suffering

When Shin Min Daily News reporters visited the scene on March 7, they found that the lorry had already been removed. Reporters then contacted the transport company that owned the lorry.

Max (42), a manager at the company, revealed in an interview that the previous driver had been parking the lorry indiscriminately across the island, leading to numerous fines.

“Our company is based in Woodlands, and we purchase season parking passes for our vehicles. However, because the driver lived far away, he chose to park near his home and assured us he would handle the parking issues himself. Unfortunately, this has now caused trouble for us,” Max said.

Feeling helpless, he added, “We are suffering unfairly from this situation and only hope to resolve this matter as soon as possible.”

Fines to Be Transferred to Responsible Parties

Max stated that at least three former drivers had caused the company to receive parking fines. He has since clarified the situation with the relevant authorities and confirmed that the fines will be transferred to the responsible individuals.

Records also indicate that the road tax for the lorry expired on January 21 this year.

Max explained that the company had already planned to sell the lorry to a second-hand vehicle dealer, which is why they did not renew the road tax.
