Measuring about 4 meters in length, a reticulated python that was found in a bush near Paya Lebar Square by the National Parks Board (NParks), was safely removed over the weekend.
NParks has dealt with a suspected encounter between the snake and the resident at 60 Paya Lebar Road back on 9 November, who was contacted by the resident nearby. The python was carefully caught under low stress by a professional and will be transferred to Mandai Wildlife Group for further handling.
The most recent 19kg python is managed by the Veterinary Healthcare Unit of Mandai Wildlife Group (MWG). Veterinarian Charlene Yeong reported an edematous swelling in the central portion of the snake, but is to be an impaction due to a large undigested prey bolus. The team closely watches the animal’s condition to decide if the animal spontaneously discharges a bolus of food. Python is content coexisting in a tranquil pond, with free water and moderate stress.
Short video clips of the snake located in front of PLQ Mall blew up on social media and shown the actions of NParks officials with the snake tongs to safely catch the snake from the plantation. According to NParks, the public is advised to stay relaxed and seek safe havens whenever snakes are sighted in public open spaces.
