A recent incident on November 3 had motorists in Malaysia shocked as they witnessed a lone bear cub seemingly in distress along a highway near Kuantan. The incident took place on the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) near Kuantan, where a video shared on TikTok captured the bear cub rolling over continuously on the road at 12:31 pm.
In the seven-second clip recorded from within a vehicle, the bear cub could be seen rolling over on its back repeatedly at the rightmost lane, indicating signs of pain or distress. Nearby, a dark-colored car was observed steering away from the bear cub, with various debris scattered on the ground around it.
According to Mothership, it has been reported that the bear cub disappeared from the scene after the authorities arrived at the scene. It remains unclear whether the bear cub sustained any injuries during the incident or was involved in a collision with a vehicle on the highway.
A second video shared on Facebook on November 4 by a user named Khairul Nizam depicted multiple vehicles slowing down and keeping to the left side of the road as the bear cub writhed around. Khairul initially thought it was a motorcycle rider knocked down, as the bear cub’s size really looked like a human. Only upon looking closer did he realize it was a bear and raised concern about its well-being.
Khairul promptly alerted highway authorities about the distressed bear cub, with the Terengganu Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) sending six officers to the scene at 1:30 pm to search for the bear. However, by the time of their arrival, the bear cub had vanished from the area.
