Prime Minister Lawrence Wong emphasized the 60th anniversary of Singapore’s independence as a significant milestone and an opportunity for Singaporeans to reflect on their shared values and build a shared future together. Speaking at the People’s Association (PA) Community Club Management Committees (CCMC) 60th anniversary dinner at One Punggol, PM Wong has called for reflection and a shared purpose that leads up to the nation’s 60th birthday next year.
PM Wong, also serving as finance minister, highlighted that the SG60 celebrations should entail introspection and a recommitment to the nation, rather than just being solely about jubilation. According to CNA, he stressed the importance of inclusivity and the involvement of all Singaporeans in the events and programs planned for the upcoming year.
The Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) announced a year-long series of activities that goes by the theme “Building Our Singapore Together,” which aims to engage Singaporeans across all age groups and provide platforms for them to connect, contribute to their community, and participate in nation-building efforts.
In addition to celebrating Singapore’s nation-building journey, the SG60 festivities will encompass a wide array of events such as Chingay, Exercise SG Ready, Singapore World Water Day, Racial and Religious Harmony Month, the Singapore Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, the World Aquatics Championships, and the National Day Parade (NDP) at the Padang with extended festivities in the Marina Bay area and heartlands.
PM Wong also highlighted the integral role of Community Club Management Committees (CCMCs) across Singapore, emphasizing their contributions to community building and their responsiveness during challenging times such as the COVID-19 pandemic. He urged CCMCs to innovate and strategize to continue mobilizing the community and addressing pertinent issues.
Over the next 12 months, 10 Community Clubs (CCs) across the country will be equipped with Community Innovation Spaces, and a Community Innovation Hackathon is planned for the first quarter of next year.
