A lot of anticipation is building as the popular hawker stall ‘Jin Ji Teochew Braised Duck & Kway Chap’ is getting ready to open once again on October 19, delighting dedicated customers looking forward to enjoying their beloved dishes once more. Melvin Chew, a second-generation hawker, just announced this news on Wednesday, October 16, in the Facebook group.

According to AsiaOne, the break started because of his mother, Lim Bee Hong, who had double knee replacement surgery on July 2, caused by the physical stress of standing at work for too long. Although still recovering from the pain, Lim Bee Hong has made great strides as she is now able to walk with no pain.

Thinking back on the difficulties of running the business by himself while the stall was closed, Melvin talked about his first thoughts of handling everything on his own. Yet, through the time-consuming task of making traditional dishes like yam rice and sambal chili from the beginning, he came to understand the difficulties of running a business by himself.

Even though their job can be challenging, Melvin is excited to see his clients again, mentioning, “I can’t wait to meet both my loyal customers and new ones.” He highlighted the special connection with clients, who have become dear friends that frequent Jin Ji not just for the delicious food, but also for the stimulating discussions and sense of camaraderie.

Founded more than 40 years ago, Jin Ji Teochew Braised Duck & Kway Chap has received high praise for its delicious dishes, achieving an impressive rating of 4.1 out of five on Google from a large number of over 100 reviews. The stall’s fame has gone beyond the local area, earning acclaim from notable individuals such as late chef Anthony Bourdain and famous travel and food vlogger Mark Wiens.

With the shop opening soon, excitement builds among residents and tourists alike, eager to savor those delicious tastes and welcoming atmosphere associated with Jin Ji Teochew Braised Duck & Kway Chap.
