According to recent reports posted by Mothership, six teens, somewhere around 17 to 20, are set to appear in court on October 9 to face charges stemming from an incident of reckless cycling in the Orchard Road area. This incident took place on May 10 and involved those teens riding along Scotts Road and Orchard Road in a manner that may danger people from the streets and themselves.
Many people on the streets at that time saw the cyclists weaving between lanes and performing stunts during their rides. Videos about this were also shown on Facebook as well. Subsequently, all six individuals will be charged for various offenses related to their conduct during the cycling incident.
The charges against these teens include not riding close to the left-hand edge of the road, failing to ride in an orderly manner, cycling without a proper protective helmet, using a bicycle without a functioning handbrake, and even using a mobile communication device while riding.
The penalties for these offenses are substantial, with fines of up to S$1,000 and potential jail terms of up to three months for first-time offenders. Repeat offenders could face even harsher consequences, including increased fines and longer periods of incarceration.
