Urine Splashed on Neighbor’s Door by 67-Year-Old Man Jailed

A 67-year-old man, Zhang Gui, has been sentenced to 12 days in jail for splashing urine on his neighbors’ doors and assaulting one of them during disputes at Block 536 Choa Chu Kang Street 51. His actions led to six charges under the Protection from Harassment Act, involving three of his neighbors according to MS News.

The first incident occurred by Zhang Gui on October 20, 2022, when a neighbor witnessed Zhang spraying a foul-smelling substance from his window. This led to a heated argument, during which Zhang forcefully opened the iron gate, causing injuries to the neighbor’s face and body.

In another case on September 26, 2023, and October 18, 2023, Zhang, believing that the vibrations from his walls were caused by his neighbor from the top floor, filled a plastic bottle with his urine and placed it upside down outside the neighbor’s door, allowing the urine to spill all over the neighbor’s property. He also splashed another bottle of urine outside at another neighbor’s unit on October 18, retaliating against a misconception that the neighbor had damaged his books.

The prosecution acknowledged that Zhang suffers from a delusional disorder, contributing to his actions. However, his limited awareness of his condition and non-compliance with treatment rendered him unsuitable for compulsory psychiatric care, leading to his 12-day jail sentence.

This case highlights the impact of disputes within residential communities and the significance of addressing mental health issues. The severity of Zhang’s actions and the legal consequences underscore the need to ensure the well-being of individuals affected by such incidents and the importance of seeking appropriate intervention.
