A 33-year-old Singaporean man was sentenced to eight weeks and five days in jail for threatening and assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
The man, who wanted to get back together with his ex-girlfriend, turned furious after finding out she found someone new. He pushed her head against the car’s window, grabbed her neck and forced her to have sex. He also threatened to spread their intimate videos.
He was sentenced to eight weeks and five days in jail on 29 January, reported Zaobao.
He faces four charges which include voluntarily causing hurt and threatening to distribute an intimate image or recording of his ex-girlfriend who is 25 years old.
According to the court proceedings, the two met in February 2022 and dated for several months before breaking up in November in the same year. However, the man expressed a desire to reconcile with his ex-girlfriend, claiming that he owed her money for credit card debts and car rental expenses. To win her back, he offered to work as her driver and chauffeur her to meet clients.
His ex-girlfriend agreed to his offer to be her designated driver and she continued to meet him after their breakup. However, things took a turn on 4 December when the man discovered that she had been dating a colleague through her phone. Enraged and humiliated, he confronted her and forcibly pulled her into his car.
During the confrontation, the man became aggressive as he started questioning his ex-girlfriend. In the process, he caused her head to hit the car’s window.
He then drove off with her, and when she tried to get her phone back, he grabbed her by the neck, choking her for approximately a minute.
During their argument, the man issued an ultimatum, demanding that his ex-girlfriend end her relationship with her male colleague and reconcile with him. He also threatened to share their explicit videos and photos if she failed to comply.
To prove that he is serious with his threats, the man showed his ex-girlfriend nude photos and explicit videos on his phone.
Fearing that the man would spread these intimate materials, she told him to calm down and later agreed to go to his house to discuss the situation.
Once at his home, the man coerced his ex-girlfriend into engaging in sexual intercourse with him, threatening to release their explicit content if she refused. Left with no choice, she reluctantly complied.
The man appeared in court on Monday morning and pleaded guilty to charges of assault and threatening to distribute obscene materials. He was subsequently sentenced to eight weeks and five days in jail.
