The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) has completed its investigation into Minister of Transport S.Iswaran.

It is now being reviewed by the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC).

In a written parliamentary written reply to Progress Singapore Party Non-Constituency MP Hazel Poa, who had requested an update into the ongoing investigations, Education Minister Chan Chun Sing said: “I understand that there is much public interest in this matter. I want to give my assurance that this case will be put through the due legal process.”

He was replying on behalf of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to give an update on the case.

According to the Education Minister, the CPIB has completed a “robust and thorough” investigation and added that the matter is currently being reviewed by the AGC. Therefore, he said that it is not appropriate to make any comments during this juncture.

What happened

Last year in May, the CPIB notified PM Lee that it came across information about Iswaran while they were investigating another case.

Later in July, the CPIB told PM Lee that they had adequate information to launch a formal investigation into Iswaran. PM Lee then agreed to launch a formal investigation.

Iswaran was then arrested by CPIB to assist in the investigation on 11 July and released on bail. While the investigation is ongoing, PM Lee ordered a suspension of Iswaran’s cabinet duties. During his leave of absence, Senior Minister of State Chee Hong Tat will be the Acting Minister for Transport.

In the same year, PM Lee also instructed for an independent review to be conducted on Ministers K Shanmugam and Vivian Balakrishnan over the rental of the black-and-white houses.

Ridout Road Saga: Investigations clear Minister K Shanmugam and Vivian Balakrishnan of corruption or criminal wrongdoings, no special treatments were given to them!

Investigations revealed that both ministers are clear of corruption or criminal wrongdoings, no special treatments were given to them and their spouses, and they were also not given any special information to win the bid of the rental transactions.

In case you didn’t know, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) is an independent agency responsible for the investigation and prevention of corruption in Singapore.
