Not all 88 will make you Huat. This kind will land you in jail.
A private-hire vehicle driver who took upskirt videos of female passengers and another 88 pedestrians on escalators was sentenced to 12 weeks’ jail on 8 January, reported Zaobao.
The man, Low Jun Xian, 36, pleaded guilty to four counts of voyeurism, with another two charges taken into consideration.
According to the report, the court heard that between December 2022 and May 2023, Low took upskirt videos of three female passengers who boarded his vehicle. He placed his phone on video-recording mode and directed the camera at the victims’ private parts, capturing their underwear and the faces of two of the victims.
In addition, Low also took upskirt videos of 88 women between November 2022 and February 2023, recording at least 88 videos of female victims on escalators.
He was arrested on 1 July 2023, after a member of the public called for help. Low was reportedly following two girls at the Sengkang Bus Interchange and acting suspiciously. Low later admitted to taking the videos of the girls for his “personal sexual gratification”.
The prosecution said in its submission that Low took upskirt videos of his female passengers in his vehicle, which also captured their faces. If the video was circulated outside, it would cause harm to them.
After taking into account all aggravating and mitigating factors, the prosecution for between 12 and 18 weeks’ jail for Low.
The penalties for voyeurism are up to two years’ jail, a fine, caning, or any combination of these punishments.
