A 65-year-old man has been arrested and charged on 7 January for the murder of a 43-year-old woman in Bukit Batok.

On 9 January, Zaobao reported that the family of the deceased has set up a wake, with her parents, brother, and friends in attendance. The deceased had two children, a son and a daughter, and they have been brought to the wake to offer their respect to their mother.

The deceased was neighbours with the accused, Quek Eng Hock, who reportedly murdered her after they had a dispute.

When a reporter from Lianhe Zaobao visited the wake on Tuesday afternoon, only the deceased’s parents and brother were present. The brother said that he was the first to receive news of his sister’s death and subsequently informed the other family members. The family had a total of four siblings, including the deceased.

The brother told the reporter that the siblings lived separately and were seldom in touch. But they still gathered together during the festive period. During these gatherings, his sister would occasionally share details of her married life and mentioned disputes with her neighbour, but did not elaborate further.

The deceased was originally from Malaysia and had divorced her husband before the tragedy happened.

At the time of the incident, her 5-year-old son who was also at the scene was taken conscious to the hospital. He was subsequently hospitalized. The decease’s brother told the reporter that her children had paid their respects at the wake and are currently coping well, without being overly affected.

The brother also revealed that the family currently has no plans to take care of the children.

In response to queries about the deceased’s ex-husband, the family did not want to comment much and said that the police would be contacting him.

Her brother mentioned that the wake would last for four days and that although the deceased did not have many friends, relatives, and friends still came to pay their respects.
