A kopitiam cleaner was arrested after allegedly molesting a 10-year-old girl.
Zaobao reported that the 63-year-old man had invited the girl to his house to see “hamster” and he touched her chest twice. The mother of the child called the police, and the man was arrested.
The incident took place at Block 803 Keat Hong Close’s Badaling Coffeeshop at around 9am.
According to the mother of the 10-year-old girl, her two daughters had gone to the kopitiam for breakfast when they encountered the man.
In an interview with the Shin Min Daily News, Ms. Zhuang said that she herself works at a kopitiam in Block 810. She starts work at 7am every morning, so she left her daughters at home.
“It’s the school holiday now, so my two daughters go to bed later. I left some money at home and asked them to go to the kopitiam downstairs to buy breakfast by themselves, not expecting things like that to happen,” she said.
She revealed that before the incident, she called to confirm the safety of her daughters and told them to go home immediately after eating. Unfortunately, at 12pm, she was informed that her elder daughter was molested by an uncle who works as a cleaner at the kopitiam when they met her for lunch.
“My elder daughter told me that the uncle had been lurking around them the entire time. He later sat beside her elder daughter and asked her for her phone number and invited her to his house to see hamsters. I always educate my daughters to beware of strangers, so she declined,” she continued.
However, the man did not give up and allegedly touched the girl’s chest. The girl pushed the man away, but he reached out again to touch her for a second time. The girl reportedly took her younger sister home immediately.
Upon hearing the incident, the mother hurried over to the kopitiam to confront the man and called the police.
The police confirmed that they had received an alert regarding a case of outrage of modesty. A 63-year-old man was arrested, and investigations are ongoing.
