72-year-old driver died after van crashed into covered walkway near Redhill MRT station

A 72-year-old driver died after his van skidded and crashed into a covered walkway near Redhill MRT station on Tuesday (March 27).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that it received a call for help at about 12.20pm, and officers arrived at the scene within four minutes. They extricated him from the driver’s seat and took him to Singapore General Hospital unconscious. He later Succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

A passer-by saw the accident and paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the driver for more than 20 minutes.

Teng Hau Hin, a security officer who was nearby when it happened, He told the media: “The van was speeding and turning at high speed. I think he lost control of his vehicle.”
