Woman meets engineer on dating platform Tinder, then cheats him of almost $120,000

A woman, who is addicted to gambling, met an engineer on the dating platform Tinder and then staged a plan to cheat his money.

According to Zaobao, the woman claimed to be a former prisoner and heavily in debt. She borrowed nearly $120,000 from the engineer and secretly used it for gambling. After the incident, the engineer only got back $30. The woman reportedly was sentenced to 26 months in prison.

The 27-year-old woman, Feng Simin, was a student at the time of the incident. She pleaded guilty to one charge of deception on Wednesday (1 March).

Based on the evidence presented, the facts show that the woman met a 26-year-old mechanical engineer through the dating platform Tinder on 21 September 2021.

She then claimed to be a former prisoner, participated in the Yellow Ribbon program, and now owed a lot of money to many people. She also told the engineer that she owed fines to the Land Transport Authority.

The woman began borrowing money from the engineer on 22 September, claiming that if she can’t repay her debts, she would risk imprisonment.
