A 60-year-old uncle who has been hoarding items in his King George’s Avenue HDB flat for many years causing cockroaches to breed has turned his house into a “cockroach house”. When his neighbours sprayed insecticide at the potted plant outside the uncle’s unit, more than a hundred cockroaches would start crawling out, reported Zaobao.

Several residents staying in King George’s Avenue Block 804 have complained to Shin Min Daily News that these cockroaches would often crawl out of the tenant’s three-bedroom flat. Reportedly, these cockroaches would even crawl into the neighbours’ homes, making them unbearable.

In an interview with Shin Min Daily News, one neighbour who lived on the same floor as the uncle told the reporter that there were initially a pair of brothers who lived in the unit. But recently, she has only seen the older brother around.

The neighbour also shared that she would often see the uncle pushing a trolley of rubbish that he collected, and he would bring the rubbish into his flat to hoard. The hoarding of rubbish has possibly caused cockroaches to breed in his flat, eventually causing an infestation.

“In 2017, when our block was undergoing toilet upgrading works, the uncle had to finally open the door to his flat, and we got a glimpse of his house and saw that it was full of debris. The workers managed to clear two to three truckloads of garbage. I believe that his house is now full of debris again,” said the neighbour.

Another neighbour also added that even though he cleans his corridor diligently every day, there will still be cockroaches outside his door. The neighbour also said that the uncle’s unit often emits a foul odor.

Another neighbour who only moved in four years ago said he only became aware of the situation after moving in, “The uncle often smells of urine. We are also worried that the uncle’s flat is a fire hazard since there are so many things piled up in his flat”

A female neighbor who stays right next door couldn’t bear it anymore and one day, she opened a bottle of insecticide and sprayed it on the uncle’s potted plants outside his flat. To her horror, hundreds of cockroaches crawled out, and then there were cockroach corpses everywhere.

But luckily ah, the Jalan Besar Town Council has managed to convince the man to clean both inside and outside his flat.
