A woman was being charged in court on 25 October (Monday) for allowing her own son to rape her own daughter and purposely hide information relating to the horrible crime.

The woman, now 43, and all other parties linked to this case, cannot be named due to a gag order to protect the daughter’s identity.

The woman’s son was sentenced to 11-and-a-half years’ jail and seven strokes of the cane in January 2020 for raping his sister and molesting her when she was a minor. Multiple other charges were also considered in sentencing.

According to CNA, the victim was only 12 years old when her brother, then 20, raped her in 2017.

The woman was slapped with five charges for intentionally omitting to give information on the criminal offence of rape and molestation of a minor, and for knowingly permitting her son to sexually abuse her daughter when she knew about it from as early as 2010.

She had allegedly noticed semen stains on her daughter’s underwear in 2010 and asked her son if he had molested or “had sex” with the victim again.

Instead of taking steps to protect her own daughter from being sexually abused by her son, she allegedly allowed the sexual abuse to continue between June 2017 and September 2017.

And when the woman found out that her daughter was pregnant, she did not take her to hospital because she scared her son would get arrested. Instead, she took her to Malaysia for an abortion, but the doctor refused to perform the procedure.

Now remanded and will return to court in November, the woman said she would be applying for legal aid.

If convicted of knowingly allowing the ill-treatment of a child, the woman could be jailed up to four years and fined up to $4,000. And if found guilty of intentionally omitting to give information about an offence, she could be jailed up to six months and fined per charge.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Social and Family Development is making arrangements for the woman’s daughter to stay in a shelter.

As for the son, he was sentenced to 11-and-a-half years’ jail and seven strokes of the cane last year on 30 January 2020.
