A 28-year-old police officer died after he was found with a gunshot wound to his head at the Yishun neighbourhood police centre (NPC), the Singapore Police Force said in a statement on 17 Jun.

The male officer had reported for duty at 7.30pm on Sunday at the NPC at 31 Yishun Central and drew his service pistol from the armoury, the police added.

He was later found with a gunshot wound to his head at around 9.30pm with his service pistol next to him.

He was immediately taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, where he died from his injuries at 10.26pm.

Police have classified the case as unnatural death and no foul play is suspected. The case is still being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department.

The police are assisting the victim’s family in their time of grief.
