A fire, size of one football field in length, broke out on 4 Mar near Lim Chu Kang Chinese Cemetery. Firefighting efforts had continued through the night and the fire was only extinguished at about 2am on 5 Mar.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to the fire at about 7.05am. A total of 52 firefighters and eight emergency vehicles were deployed to combat the fire.

As the nearest fire hydrants are about 2km away from the site, the team has to manually lay hoses across that distance to maintain a constant water supply. Portable pumps were also set up at intermediate points to boost the water pressure, SCDF added.

The prolonged firefighting operations are due to the “slow-burning deep-seated fire,” coupled with the surrounding thick vegetations and windy condition, SCDF updated in a Facebook post on 8.23pm.

The fire involved piles of timber waste, but the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Meanwhile, an onsite rehabilitation area was set up for the firefighters for them to rest while they work hard through the night.

Thank you SCDF for your hard work again. Well done!
