On 14 Feb, explosions were heard from Carlton Hotel in Bras Basah, with power outages reported in the vicinity. About 1,000 people were evacuated from the building, no injuries were reported.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) had responded to the fire incident at 76 Bras Basah Road at about 1.15pm, SCDF said in a Facebook post.

The fire, which was contained within a switch room, was eventually extinguished by fire extinguishers.

Additionally, SP group confirmed that the electricity supply to some central areas of Singapore, namely Bugis, Chinatown and Bras Basah, was disrupted. Officers were also deployed to the affected areas to restore supply as quickly and safely as possible, SP group announced in its Facebook post.

SBS transit also indicated that seven of its MRT stations were affected, but the train services were not interrupted.

The cause of the incident is still being investigated.
