On 31 Jan, the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) warned the public not to buy or use four cosmetic creams from RDL that as they contain a toxic metal, mercury.
The four products that are contaminated are Deeja Cosmetic Sun cream, RDL Babyface Whitening Cream Night Cream 5 in 1, RDL Face Off Fade-Out Cream Day Cream 5 in 1 and Deeja Cosmetic Wrinkle Cream.
Notably, the amount of mercury found in Deeja Cosmetic Wrinkle Cream surpasses the permissible limits by more than 40,000 times.
Regular usage of these contaminated creams can lead to rash, skin discoloration and blotching. Long term exposure will cause devastating health consequences including damage to the kidneys, digestive, and nervous system, HSA warned.
Separately, the Deeja Cosmetic Dream Cream was also found to contain hydroquinone, a skin lightening agent. Likewise, inappropriate usage in high concentration can cause changes in skin color, and hypersensitivity reactions, such as rashes and burning sensation on the skin.
The Deeja cosmetic creams were found to carry false claims such as ‘made and specially formulated from 100% natural ingredients’, HSA exclaimed. Sellers and suppliers are also directed to stop selling the products immediately.
