Following the recent news of a maritime dispute between Singapore and Malaysia, Mr Mok a resident in Bedok North made his way to his MP’s Mr Lee Yi Shyan Meet The People Session. There, he asked a volunteer to write a letter to MINDEF on his behalf, to urge MINDEF to call him up for service if Singapore ever goes to war.

Mr Mok (retired) during his interview, mentioned that he was an army regular when he was younger. He had served in 5 SIR for 4-5 years. Reminiscing, he said that he had left the army when he was only in his 20s for personal reasons. However, his love and passion for Singapore has never subsided.

All these years, he had been paying close attention to the political news in Singapore, akin to watching Singapore’s growth over the years and is familiar with the subject of Singapore-Malaysia relations.

According to him, the disputes between Singapore and Malaysia although unexpected, are not new. He was deeply affected when the news of the dispute broke and he wishes to contribute his part.

A father of two, Mr Mok said that he made his feelings known to his wife before making his way to  MPS with the wish that Mr Lee could help him write a request letter to MINDEF.

Leading an active lifestyle, he feels that he is still fit to contribute his part despite his age. This according to him is his way of showing the love for his country, Singapore.

On a side note, Mr Lee has personally telephoned Mr Mok to express his gratitude for wanting to step forward and serve. Mr Lee said that he had called Mr Mok on Tuesday night, after he had heard of Mr Mok’s desire to serve.

He is very grateful to Mr Mok for his desire and willingness to play his part for Singapore. He further added that he would alert MINDEF through other channels of this inspirational story of soldiers who want to show their love for the country.

Sure Boh Singapore found a Facebook post by Goh Pei Ming, who we believe is a Colonel serving in 3rd Singapore Infantry Brigade, a photo of him and Mr Mok at the parade square of 5 SIR.

5 SIR

Colonel Goh mentioned in his post:

“Mr Mok is a real inspiration. And watching him stand to thumbs-up to every contingent that marched past, I can’t help but salute his passion and love for Singapore. Not to worry Mr Mok, you have done your part. Let us, the young ones, do ours for our defence.”

Looks like MINDEF granted Mr Mok’s wish to return to 5 SIR! Well most probably just for a visit!
