A 19-year-old NUS undergraduate died from her injuries after an accident at the junction of Clementi Road and Commonwealth Avenue West yesterday.

She was travelling in a taxi with three other Singaporean NUS students when it crashed with an oncoming car.

Based on the video that was making rounds, it seemed like the taxi was turning right at the junction when a car from the lane diagonally opposite dashed forward.

The high-impact of the crash caused both vehicles to spin out of control. A female passenger in the taxi almost got flung out of the window.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force had to use hydraulic tools to rescue a 22-year-old man who was trapped in the taxi.

One of the students was seriously injured. The other two are in stable condition.

In a statement published on Facebook, NUS expressed that their thoughts are with the affected families and friends during this difficult time.

Police investigations are ongoing.
