No, you are not entitled to drive slowly on the fast lane, you’re not even allowed to drive “within the speed limit” on the fast lane. If you want to be strict about it, you’re not supposed to drive on the fast lane at all unless you’re overtaking.
Keeping left unless overtaking is not a point of view. It is the Highway Code. It doesn’t matter what speed you’re doing, if there are no vehicles to overtake, you keep left.
So whatever your excuse, it is invalid. You get out of the right-most fast lane when you’re done overtaking.
I hate it when people make excuses and trying to justify their behaviour. Here are a few I’ve heard:
Excuse No. 8: “You clever you fly lah”
Aunty, I want to fly…but you’re in my way.
Excuse No. 7: “I keep within speed limit what”
Repeat after me: “The fast lane is only for overtaking, not driving. I need to keep left unless overtaking”.
Excuse No. 6: “My car, I drive the way I like”
You can drive the way you like….on the left lanes.
Excuse No. 5: “Eh I’m being safe hor”
You can be even safer and keep to the left.
Excuse No. 4: “You also cannot drive faster than 90 what”
How fast others drive is none of your business, the law requires you to keep to the left first.
Excuse No. 3: “Why I cannot? I pay road tax”
So does the rest of the world. So keep left.
Excuse No. 2: “I cruise control lah, cannot adjust”
That’s fine – and here’s an even better tip: keep left and cruise control all you want.
Excuse No. 1: “You want to race you go race track la”
I’m trying to get there, but you’re in my way. So get out of the fast lane and keep to the left.
JUST KEEP TO THE LEFT ARGHHH!! KEEP LEFT UNLESS OVER TAKING IS THAT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?!!?!? DON’T DRIVE LIKE A TURTLE ON THE FAST LANE!!
Pro-tip: If someone signals right behind you when you’re driving like a snail on the fast lane, he’s asking you to get out of the way.
Pro-tip 2: Keeping a “safe distance” that is big enough for a heard of elephants to cross is just rude behaviour. Get out of the way.
Once again, repeat after me: Keep left unless overtaking. It is not an opinion, it is the Highway Code.
