58-year-old Wong Chee Meng is accused of accepting S$107,000 worth of bribes from the director of two building and construction firms, Chia Sin Lan, in exchange for “advancing business interests” with Chia’s companies.

Chia Sin Lan, 62, together with his companies 19-ANC Enterprise and 19-NS2 Enterprise, were also charged alongside Wong.

Here’s a breakdown of the bribes given by Chia to Wong:

  • $30,000 worth of remittances money to Xu Hongmei, Wong’s mistress in China
  • $49,377 worth of entertainment fees at KTV lounges
  • Employment for Wong’s daughter-in-law, Ms Le Thi Hien who worked at 4-Ever Engineering, earning $8,248 from March to August 2016
  • A$13,500 discount on the purchase price of a Toyota Corolla Altis through conspiring with car salesman Yip Fong Yin
  • A mobile phone line

Chia also splurged on meals and paid $1,070 for Wong’s “spa treatment” in Geylang.

These alleged offences were held between December 2014 and September 2016.

The penalty is a maximum jail term of five years, and/or a fine of up to S$100,000 per charge.

Wong and Chia are currently on bail on $100,000 each and will have to return to court for their next hearing on Apr 11.
