Trio arrested for attempted housebreaking in Serangoon

The police have arrested three men aged between 17 and 19 for their suspected involvement in three cases of attempted housebreaking and theft by night along Serangoon Road.

On 11 March 2018 at 5.18am, police received a report that the roller shutters of a jewellery shop along Serangoon Road were found damaged with some burnt marks.

A few oxygen-ethylene tanks with blowtorch, gloves, cap, mask and some house-breaking implements were also found near the area. On the same day, two other similar reports of burnt marks discovered on doors of a goldsmith and an apparel shop were received.

Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of Police cameras, officers from Central Police Division established the identities of the three men and arrested them along Jelapang Road, Boon Lay and Circuit Road in an operation conducted between 6.00pm on 11 March 2018 and 2.00am on 12 March 2018.

All three men will be charged in Court on 13 March 2018 with the offence of Attempted Housebreaking and Theft by Night with Common Intention under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 read with Section 511 and Section 34 of the same Act, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years.
