5,000 SMRT staff to wear new uniforms from Monday, can’t miss station staff in bright red jackets

The last time SMRT did a uniform revamp was eight years ago, in 2010.

Come this Monday (5 Mon), 5,000 of its staff will be donning new uniforms.

This includes their frontline station staff, train captains, operation controllers, technicians and maintenance crew.

Station staff at various stations will be wearing bright red jackets – this is to allow staff to be easily identified in a crowd by commuters who need help.

SMRT also said the lighter colours project a modern and professional image.

The company also said that the new look for each of the departments incorporates features that were recommended by staff after a year-long engagement and trials as well as consultation with National Transport Workers’ Union (NTWU).

The new t-shirts for maintenance staff are absorbent cotton material as the workers will need to spend a lot of time outdoors.

The pants and skirts are also designed to improve productivity. They have a loop at the sides for station staff to hang their radio sets – this will help free up their hands for work.
