5 men drowned in a Malaysian river after they jumped into it when they tried to escape police who raided an illegal cock fighting gambling den on Friday (16 February) night.
The men were aged between 40 and 50 and were involved in the biggest cock fighting gambling den in the state of Kedah.
Around 200 were involved in the makeshift cock fighting den where the police raided. The police chief said that 76 people were arrested and seized 40 cocks and RM140,000.
The 5 men who died reportedly jumped into the river while it was dark. The Sungai Muda river used to be a sand mining area which is apparently 40m deep.
Their bodies were retrieved two days later on Sunday 19 February.
