Rare super blood blue moon will mean something for all of us

Tomorrow (31 January) night will have a cosmic event that has not been seen in the last 36 years.  A “super blood blue moon” is apparently very rare. It can be seen in various parts of the world, including Singapore.

The event is rare because it combines 3 unusual lunar events – an extra big super moon, a blue moon and a total lunar eclipse.

A blue moon is the second full moon in a month, which actually happens every two years and eight months. But don’t expect the moon to really appear blue hor. It’s called blue moon because as the saying goes, “once in a blue moon”, it doesn’t appear frequently.

According to a physics and astronomy professor from Florida, “all three of these cycles lining up is what makes this unusual”.

Based on his calculations, the last time a supermoon, blue moon and total lunar eclipse happened all together was in 1844.

For all of us in Singapore, the rare sight can be visible between 7.30pm to 11.30pm.

If you’re interested, the Science Centre is having an organised viewing session that begins at 7.30pm.

Oh by the way hor, be careful not to look to the sky for too long hor, otherwise after seeing the rare event, all of you will get neck pain.
