54 year old A. Ashok Kumar was sentenced to 2 weeks jail yesterday (24 January) for outraging an American woman’s modesty.
The taxi driver was driving a couple back to their home but went too when he kissed the lady as she escorted her drunken husband into their flat.
The couple hailed Kumar’s taxi late on 15 June 2016 at Circular Road.
The woman said in her testimony that after paying and thanking the taxi driver, she supported her drunken husband before he fell into some bushes near their condominium.
As she was going to pick him up, she found the driver had followed her and was standing near them.
She refused to let him help but yet he still continued to follow them.
Ashok Kumar followed them into their lift and she told him not to touch her husband.
After bringing her husband into the apartment, she was shocked to see the driver in front of the door.
As she tried to close the door, he suddenly kissed her on the cheek. She turned her head the other way in shock but he kissed her again, on the mouth.
Ashok Kumar claimed the couple were drunk and that it was the woman who brought her cheeks to him on both sides to thank him as he was leaving. He denied molesting the woman.
